Tips for the
Design and implementation
Durable and easy to care for
Solid wood floorboards as wall cladding are extremely durable and rarely need to be renewed compared to wallpaper or paint. When designing walls and ceilings with plank elements, slightly different stylistic impressions are created compared to using a wooden floor, as the planks are attached directly at eye level. The surface of the planks needs to be treated differently than with wooden flooring and it is likely that when a plank is used as wall covering it will be touched more often by hands. Therefore, grease and dirt stains rarely appear on a wallboard. The floorboard elements on the walls can simply be brushed or sanded and then sealed with maintenance oil.
From the paneling to the wooden construction
When it comes to covering walls and ceilings in a traditional home with concrete or stone walls, there are several options to choose from. A classic method of fastening is to screw the planks onto a substructure. Alternatively, you can also choose the wooden construction, in which the floorboards can also serve as a room divider or partition wall. Even with stone walls, it is advisable to allow for slight ventilation.
Different widths emphasize the joints
An interesting way to highlight the joints of the wood on the wall is to choose a plank wall covering of different widths. In contrast to the floor, you can see the course of the joints better here.
In comparison, wooden floorboard walls are less often interrupted by pieces of furniture placed on the floor area. It is also more likely that a hallway wall will not be blocked by large furniture.
Surface finish from light to dark
As usual, choosing the optimal types of wood for wall cladding depends on the lighting. If you have large, floor-to-ceiling windows, darker solid wood floorboards can also be used. For rooms with less lighting, however, it is recommended to work with lighter woods.
Set accents
With wooden floorboards you can give your room an individual touch and set special accents. For example, instead of covering the entire wall, you can use a single floor-to-ceiling solid wood plank and be playful with it. Another option is to lay the planks on the floor and pull them up a little at the ends in the same direction. This creates an effect like a painting on the wall. To give the room even more life and dynamism, you can also use a heel in a matching color.
Solid wood floorboards also work well as wall cladding in combination with exposed concrete. The warm wood aesthetically breaks up the cool and hard look of the concrete. This gives a wooden wall a stylish element and creates a homely and cozy atmosphere in an otherwise rather sterile ambience.
Solid wood floorboards as ceiling cladding
Floorboards as ceiling cladding are very popular with homeowners who want to create a rustic or traditional look in their rooms. But there are other advantages of using floorboards as ceiling cladding.
First of all, they offer excellent sound insulation and insulation against heat and cold transfers. This allows you to reduce your energy costs by keeping the room warm in winter and comfortably cool in summer.
Wood is also a sustainable material that is extremely durable. A well-maintained wood ceiling can last for decades without fading or looking worn.
